The moment a driver of a vehicle mows down a mother duck and her ducklings has been caught on camera.
Queenstown resident Rolf Liechti captured the moment nine ducklings, a mother and a father duck had two near misses with vehicles before being run over by another car.
A woman in a purple jacket can be seen attempting to help the ducklings across the road.
They go into the middle lane and she walks back to the side of the road.
She signals to the oncoming red Suburu to slow down but the drive plows right over the top of the ducks.
The mother and one of the ducklings were killed "so that means they're all dead now, probably," Mr Lietchi told the Otago Daily Times.
The pictures were captured right outside the Queenstown Primary School, which has signs on the road for motorists to slow for children. The driver of the Suburu appears to have ignored these.
Police confirmed a complaint was received about a motorist's dangerous driving. They said the information provided suggested no offence was committed and no further action was taken.
