Supermarket chain Countdown says it has nothing to do with a prize draw scam using its name.
Customers have reported receiving text messages claiming they won a place in Countdown's "November prize draw", prompting them to click on a link.
A Countdown spokesperson told Newshub customers shouldn't click on it.
"If ever someone has any doubt about the authenticity of a text or email, they should always check with us before doing anything."
Countdown says its promotional text messages will come from the number '800'.
Online safety watchdog NetSafe said it's aware of the Countdown scam, and advised customers to protect their personal information and think twice before entering any personal details online, including passwords for bank, email and social media sites, bank account and credit card details, phone numbers, birth date, driver's license and passport details.
Countdown updates the scams pages on its website when it finds out about new schemes, which customers can check if they receive suspicious messages or emails.
If you find yourself being scammed or have any doubts, you can call Countdown on 0800 40 40 40 or email hoax@countdown.co.nz.
Alternatively, report suspicious scam activity to NetSafe or call the police at 111.
