One person is dead and another critically injured after separate crashes on Saturday around midday.
The first took place at 12pm when a car went over a bank on Bossu Rd in the Okuti Valley, Canterbury.
The sole occupant of the car has been confirmed as dead and traffic management is in place while emergency services work at the scene.
Another crash took place when a car struck a moped on Mill Rd in Otaki around 12:05pm. A helicopter has been dispatched and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
The serious crash unit will investigate both incidents.
