Two Auckland landmarks are gearing up to dazzle partygoers for New Year's Eve.
For the first time the Sky Tower's fireworks display with be in step with the Auckland Harbour Bridge. And that's not all that's in store.
An expert team of pyrotechnicians has spent six months preparing for the five-minute fireworks display. They were out early on Monday morning, installing 500kg of fireworks, 1.5 tonnes of equipment and 12 kilometres of cabling.
"You'll just have to work out where you want to look, you'll just have to turn in circles. Because we're doing a 360-degree show," says PyroStar managing director Robert McDermott.
That's because this year when the clock strikes midnight a five-minute light show on the bridge will synchronise with fireworks from the Sky Tower.
Beamed onto the side of the Sky Tower will also be the biggest and brightest laser show yet.
Three hours of animation will include a wide range of Kiwiana and an adventurous little kiwi.
"It's a nice friendly little character. There's some funny moments, it's got a real story to it," says Soulstorm Lasers director Ben Lawrence.
The countdown clock will also be in Te Reo Māori.
In Wellington the Waterfront is where it's at and where you'll see some new musical acts.
And that's not all, with other events planned up and down the country.
In Tauranga there's three options including the waterfront to choose from. In Christchurch, North Hagley Park is the place to be, and in Dunedin it's the Octagon.
Wherever you are for New Year it's best to get in position early so you can kick back and enjoy the show.
