For the first time, the Sky Tower's New Year fireworks display was in step with the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
An expert team of pyrotechnicians spent six months preparing for the five-minute fireworks display. They were out early on Monday morning, installing 500kg of fireworks, 1.5 tonnes of equipment and 12 kilometres of cabling.
When the clock struck midnight, a five-minute light show on the bridge synchronised with fireworks from the Sky Tower.
Tens of thousands gathered to watch from the streets below.
