Thousands of reindeer soft toys gifted by shopping centre Santas are being recalled after their red noses were found to be a choking hazard.
Around 5000 of these toys were distributed to children across four shopping centres around New Zealand.
These were Botany Town Centre in Auckland, Bayfair Shopping Centre in Mt Maunganui, Centre City in New Plymouth and The Palms in Christchurch. All four of them are managed by AMP Capital, which has put out the recall notice.
"We have since discovered that in some circumstances, the reindeer's nose may detach and small parts can be a choking hazard for infants and young children," the recall notice says.
"As a precaution, we have voluntarily recalled this product and consumers are asked to return the product to the concierge desk or centre management office of an AMP Capital managed property.
"The safety of our customers is our number one priority and we apologise for any inconvenience this recall may cause."
