The Royal Mail is sticking to its guns after it suggested New Zealanders topped their Christmas trees with kiwi.
"In New Zealand the kiwi is often used at the top of the tree in place of a traditional star or angel," the Royal Mail posted on Twitter on Friday (NZ time).

But New Zealand Twitter users didn't believe it, and mocked the account for sharing "fake news" to its 133,000 followers.
"Please stop sharing fake news - this isn't true," wrote scientist Dr Michelle Dickinson.
"No kiwi has ever graced the top of my NZ Xmas Tree but Miley has been coming in on her wrecking ball for years," wrote user @BombDizzled, accompanied with a picture of a Miley Cyrus-themed ornament.
Now the Royal Mail is claiming Tourism New Zealand's website lead it astray, posting a link in reply to the initial tweet.
Sure enough, there is an entry on the website that says a kiwi can be used for tree-topping purposes.
"New Zealand's national bird is of course flightless but at Christmas time, can be spotted on tree tops in various decorative guises and vying for pride of place with the traditional fairy," the website said.
"Other native birds like pukeko, fantail, tui and kea also provide imagery for Kiwi-style Christmas cards and decorations."
