It's two days into summer - but the weather is a week behind schedule.
Rainy weather is forecasted for most of next week, with western parts of the South Island likely to get hit the worst.
MetService said there is a chance of isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms for part of the country in the next few days as a series of fronts move across the country.

- Weather: Summer off to a rough start with wind, rain forecast
MetService meteorologist Tui McInnes said "cooler temperatures could be in store mid-week but luckily these are likely to be brief."
"A series of fronts move across Aotearoa as we go into the working week, bringing wet conditions," he continued.
"Unstable air with these systems means that some areas may also see isolated thunderstorms over the coming days."
The weather is due to improve as the week progresses, with Friday expected to be a sunny day countrywide.
There is currently a severe thunderstorm warning in Hutt City and Upper Hutt City, with photos shared on social media showing dark clouds approaching the area just north of Wellington.
Civil Defence said people in the Hutt should take shelter, move their cars away from trees and take caution when driving when the storm approaches.
