A one-year-old girl has drowned on a rural Ashburton property.
Emergency services were called to a property on Maronan Valetta Rd at about 5:20 pm on Sunday.
"The girl was found unresponsive in a body of water," Senior Sergeant Matt Emery said.
Stuff reported she drowned in a ditch.
She was flown to Christchurch Hospital by rescue helicopter but later died.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the girl's death.
Senior Sergeant Emery extended his sympathies to the family.
