A cleaner for Hobsonville Point secondary school performed a heroic rescue on Friday, with the help of her colleague.
Barbara Opavova thought it was like any other day, until she heard a racket.
"I could hear the birds screaming," she told The Project on Friday "I could see little baby birds, and it was on the ground and trying to fly and he was getting closer and closer to the drain, and suddenly it was gone.
To Ms Opavova's horror, the helpless bird had fallen into a storm water drain. Panicked, she posted to Facebook for help, and dozens of people replied.
The most helpful however, was her partner Dominic.
