Trains in Auckland have been delayed after an incident at the Takanini crossing.

Southbound train services are set to terminate at Manukau station following the incident, where a person is understood to have died.

Auckland Transport confirmed that Taka St has been closed at the crossing and that train services will be affected.

"Both the Eastern and Southern Lines will run at a 20 minute frequency," it said on Twitter.

"At Manukau passengers can use buses to travel further south."

Auckland Transport said more updates will follow.

In a follow-up tweet, Auckland Transport said it expected the incident to last into the evening.

Earlier in the day, some train services between Auckland's Pukekohe and Papakura were cancelled due to a track fault.

Meanwhile, some buses weren't operating in Auckland's Onehunga due to a surprise bus strike.
