The man believed to be behind a targeted attack at two Christchurch Mosques which has left fourty-nine people dead and many injured was a member of a rifle club.
Vice-president of the Bruce Rifle Club, Scott Williams, told Newhsub that Brenton Tarrant has been a member of the Milton club since 2018.
He said they are currently assisting police with their inquiries.
Williams said that to club members who had any association with Williams, he seemed like "a normal person".
"[He] never gave anyone reason to suspect he would carry out an attack like he has."
The club, in South Otago, is understood to be struggling to come to terms with the events on Friday.
"The club is feeling, shocked stunned, and a bit betrayed that we've had this person in our club that would do these horrible things."
More to come.
