New Zealand fell into silence for two minutes today in tribute to those who lost their lives during the Christchurch attacks last Friday.
At 1:32pm television stations, radio stations, workplaces, and gatherings across the country took two minutes to reflect on what Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called New Zealand's "darkest day."
It was approximately 1:40pm last Friday when a shooter entered the Al Noor mosque on Deans Avenue in Christchurch and opened fire on a group inside who were praying.
He then travelled to Linwood mosque, continuing his reign of terror in Christchurch, before being arrested.
Since then, an outpouring of grief and empathy for New Zealand's Muslim population has seen thousands of flowers piled outside mosques around the country and donations reaching over $10 million for the families of those killed or injured.
Many from the Muslim community will be returning to Friday prayers for the first time since the shootings.
