Recent interest in Anzac Day has been primarily focused on which events would go ahead in the wake of the March 15 Christchurch terror attacks.
Events to remember the centenary of the first World War over the last few years have also done much to pique New Zealanders' interest.
It raises the question of how the annual commemorations are viewed by modern Kiwis.
New Zealand Defence Force Air Commodore Tim Walshe spoke to The AM Show about commemorations on Thursday, and said they were a significant occasions.
He said the defence force would be at around 320 events across the country.
