A hilarious photo has emerged of a golden retriever wielding a knife and staring at a cat - but there's suspicion the dog was set up by its feline frenemy.
Auckland woman Esther Sasha Tudor captured the picture of her golden retriever, Stella, on Wednesday night, armed with a knife and staring blankly at her pet cat.
"[I] heard a bang in the middle of the night and was scared. But obviously wasn't a break in because the dog wasn't barking," she told Newshub.
"Went to investigate and well there she was with a knife. It's just the way she was staring at the cat that was the worry."
While Tudor says the cat is fine, it isn't the first time Stella has been caught getting into hijinks in the middle of the night. She also regularly steals things from around the house, including toilet paper, kitchen utensils, clothes, cords and socks.
"She doesn't destroy anything [though], which is good," she said.
"She steals other dogs' sticks from the beach and then brings them home with her."
Her post has many on social media in hysterics, but some also reckon Stella may have been set up by a very sneaky puss.
"This was the cat's doing for sure. This is definitely a case of self-defence," said one user, while another suggested the "cat was planning something and the dog rescued you".
"Cats are shady."
