A fatal crash in Canterbury has brought the Queen's Birthday weekend road toll to three.
One person died at the scene of the two car collision in West Melton, Canterbury.
Police were called to the scene on West Coast Road just before 10pm on Sunday.
Another was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
An investigation is underway.
This is the third fatal crash this long weekend. On Friday a motorist died after a single vehicle crash in Coromandel, and another was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
On Sunday morning a motorcyclist was killed after a collision with a car on Waimate Highway.
