Temperatures are expected to be below average on Sunday, with the nation halfway through what WeatherWatch is calling a "polar surge".
It'll be particularly colder than usual on the east coast of the South Island from Kaikoura in the north down to Christchurch, and in Manawatu and Wairarapa in the North Island.
MetService says there shouldn't be any more heavy snow on the Kaikoura Ranges and Canterbury high country. But high winds remain further north, with gales expected in Wellington and Wairarapa.

South Islanders are being warned to be ready for further road closures, as a wintry blast sweeps up the country.
Both Alpine routes, State Highway 7 between the West Coast and Canterbury and State Highway 73, Springfield to Arthurs Pass, are both now back open.
But a stretch of State Highway 1 between Christchurch and Picton via Kaikoura remains closed due to the risk of rockfall as the coastline takes a battering from heavy rain. It's shut between Peketa and Oaro.
"We can't monitor it and inspect the road at nighttime, so basically we'll keep it closed overnight," NZTA spokesperson Tresca Forrester said on Saturday evening, as heavy rains battered the coastline.
"We've had a bit of snow through some of those higher roads through the South Island. As the conditions fine up, we'll be dealing with things like ice," said Forrester.
And State Highway 1 between Waioru and Rangipo has been closed due to heavy snow. A detour is in place via Tongariro National Park - motorists are being advised to take extra care.
