Lines company Vector says there have been multiple power outages mostly affecting parts of west and north Auckland this morning.
"As a result of strong winds, the network lost several feeders and one zone substation supplying power to multiple areas," a spokesperson said.
"The outages were caused by strong winds causing lines to clash, or by trees and vegetation blowing onto lines."
Waikato police are calling for motorists to also take care with the strong winds and rain.

On top of the power cuts, there is also some heavy southwest swell affecting Northland and Auckland's west coasts.
"Here is a snapshot of the significant wave height around midday today for 5.5-6.5m, this should be easing from tonight," MetService tweeted.
