It is understood at least two people have been arrested following an armed police operation in Christchurch.
Police were at a Strickland St property, in the suburb of Spreydon, and say they were looking for a person of interest.
Newshub understands two were arrested, one being taken from the property in handcuffs.
Police threw eight cannisters of tear gas or flashbang grenades into the house, it is understood.
Eleven police cars, an ambulance and two police dogs were at the scene.
A police spokesperson said traffic was diverted and the Armed Offenders Squad was at the scene as precaution.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area, a Christchurch Transport Operations Centre spokesperson said.
