The armed offenders' squad is on site at a residential property in Taranaki after a report of a man holding what appeared to be a firearm.
A police spokesperson confirmed they received a call at 8.40am on Tuesday of a man damaging a car outside the property on Waihi Road in Hawera.
"He had a firearm, or what appeared to be a firearm," the spokesperson told Newshub.
The armed offenders' squad was deployed, and cordons are in place at the intersection of Waihi Road and Rimu Street.
No arrests have been made.
