A tornado has ripped through a New Plymouth suburb, causing destruction to two buildings.
Fire services were called to Oropuriri Rd at roughly 2pm on Friday after reports of a tornado damaging two buildings.
Kidszone Preschool and Nursery wrote on Facebook that due to a suspected tornado, the preschool had enacted its lockdown policy and kept all children indoors.
While its building was not damaged, it said there was damage to other buildings on the road.
"Please be wary when coming to collect your children," it said.
Officers have left the scene.
No injures have been reported.
