Dramatic video has emerged of the moment a man in a steamroller went on a rampage in the Hutt Valley.
The steamroller was shown in the video slamming into parked vehicles while shocked onlookers scrambled.
"F**k this c**t," the man filming the video exclaims several times as the steamroller rolls into vehicles and others fled.
Police were called at 12:25am to Eastern Hutt Rd in Silverstream and found a man using the roller to damage parked vehicles. Five were damaged.
He was arrested for endangering transport and for assault, and an an associate was arrested for assault.
Two people were injured - one hurt in the leg in an accident not directly involving the steamroller, and another sustaining facial injuries after an altercation, police said.
A 47-year-old man appeared in Hutt Valley District Court on Saturday, and was granted interim name suppression and bail.
"It is clear this was a serious incident which had the potential for tragedy," Det Snr Sgy Kevan Verry said.
"Police are also aware of concerning sentiment circulating on social media surrounding this incident. We remind people that making threatening or abusive statements can be an offence, and ask anyone with concerns to contact us immediately."
