Police are investigating a suspected hit and run in Whanganui overnight.
An elderly woman's body was discovered near the intersection of Anzac Parade and Helmore St around 1:55am with injuries consistent with being hit by a car.
Emergency services were called and police have searched the area but no vehicle has been located.
Anzac Parade has been closed between Jones St and Jellicoe St while officers examine the scene. Police are urging anyone involved in the incident to come forward as soon as possible.
Police are also asking for any CCTV footage from businesses or residents on Anzac Parade, or anyone who saw the woman in the area before her body was found.
