A boatie who managed to reach the shore after their vessel capsized on Saturday has died.
There were three in the boat when it was "swamped" and overturned near the river mouth at Wairaurahiri, Fiordland, police said on Sunday.
All three made it to shore, with one raising the alarm at a nearby lodge.
But by the time emergency services arrived, one had died.
Police said the death has been referred to the coroner.
