Hamilton Mayoral candidate Lisa Lewis has spoken out after sharing security footage of "school kids" throwing a stone at her German Shepherd.
The former sex worker posted the video to her Facebook page, labelling the incident, which happened on Monday, "unacceptable" and "animal cruelty".
"I was watching the video camera that I've set up inside, and I just saw some boys playing rugby or touch, and they just started getting closer and closer to my fence," she told Newshub on Wednesday.
"Then I just watched one of the boys just pick up a stone and threw it at my dog, and I immediately went out there."
She said she then ran outside to approach the group.
"He tried denying it and I said 'I've got you on camera mate'.
"It's actually upset me that someone would think that it's okay to do this - this is unacceptable."
Lewis said she shared the footage so others knew it wasn't acceptable.
She told Newshub she was thankful to have the video as evidence.
"I contacted the SPCA," she said. "The SPCA are currently investigating."
Her dog Axel was not harmed but the incident did cause him some distress, Lewis said.
"To me they [the school kids] were old enough to know what they did was wrong."
The SPCA has been contacted for comment.
