Wellingtonians experienced an abrupt wake-up call overnight.
A magnitude 4 quake struck near Porirua at a depth of 27 kilometres just two minutes before 10pm on Sunday night.
Geonet says more than 14,000 people reported feeling the shake, most of them describing it as light.
People as far away as Bluff and Auckland reported feeling it.

There are no reports of damage.
