The wreckage of a missing aircraft has been found in the northern Tararua Ranges.
The light plane disappeared on Sunday while flying between Foxton and Paraparaumu.
Two people, believed to be on a training flight, were on the plane.
Police on Monday confirmed both occupants, both men, had died in the crash.
The aircraft was reported overdue around 8:30pm yesterday and was last detected on the eastern side of the Tararua Ranges, high in the mountains west of Eketahuna.
The wreckage was found around 7:30am on Monday.
"Police’s thoughts are with the families of the two men involved at this tragic time," a spokesperson said.
The Civil Aviation Authority will investigate the crash.
