Homeowners in Rotorua say burglars broke into their home and had sex before going through drawers and drinking their booze.
A report by the Rotorua Daily Post on Wednesday says the owners found what looked like semen on their linen after discovering the house had been burgled.
"We rang police back again and told them what we had found and they said to put it in a cardboard box because plastic bags can destroy DNA evidence," the unnamed homeowner told the RDP.
Authorities have visited the house and are investigating the burglary. The homeowner said what the burglars had done was "disgusting".
"It's just so disrespectful," the homeowner said.
Police said forensic results have yet to be completed.
"This type of dishonesty offending will be a priority for police alongside disrupting organised crime," Rotorua crime prevention manager Inspector Brendon Keenan told the RDP.
