A coroner has reiterated the need for adult supervision, following the death of an 11-year-old on a motorcycle.

Jessica Robson from Winton was riding a 50cc motorcycle at a friend's family farm in 2016 when she went out a gate and onto a road, colliding with an oncoming car.

She was taken to Invercargill Hospital with serious head and leg injuries, and later transferred to Starship Hospital in Auckland. She died 14 days later.

The 11-year-old wasn't wearing a helmet, and the only adult was elsewhere on the farm. She was an inexperienced rider.

Coroner AJ Tutton made no recommendations, saying there is readily available guidance on the use of motorcycles by children. They reiterated the need for adult supervision at all times.
