Police have spoken to media about the final plan to recover the bodies from Whakaari/White Island.
Families of the victims have already been informed of the plan. Deputy commissioner Mike Clement provided some insight into Friday's recovery effort, which will be undertaken "at first light" by NZDF personnel in specialist equipment.
It is believed eight bodies remain on the island after Monday's eruption. Two of the bodies remain unaccounted for on the volcano.
