All bus services in Auckland operated by NZ Bus will suspend services from Saturday due to ongoing industrial action.
NZ Bus, the principal bus company for Auckland, announced on Friday that it had been advised by FIRST Union and the Tramways Union that its members proposed taking strike action between December 7 and December 24.
During this period, about 800 drivers intended not to collect fares or use electronic ticketing services.
However, NZ Bus said the company can no longer afford this strike action and all services would be suspended.
Mediation will take place on Monday, but services could be suspended until Christmas.
Auckland Transport (AT) said the unions hadn't accepted the latest pay offer from NZ Bus and would continue to strike by not collecting fares.
"NZ Bus advises that drivers who continue participating in the strike will be suspended from tomorrow," AT said in a statement.
Bus services operated by companies other than NZ Bus will continue as scheduled, as will train and ferry services.
Some of the city's busiest routes are affected, according to AT, including those along Dominion, Sandringham, Mt Eden and Manukau Roads.
The bus routes that will be impacted are: CityLink, InnerLink, OuterLink, TāmakiLink, 14T, 14W, 18, 20, 22A, 22N, 22R, 24B, 24R, 24W, 25B, 25L, 27T, 27W, 27H, 30, 68, 75, 82, 101, 105, 106, 110, 122, 125, 125X, 128, 129, 162, 252, 253, 221X, 223X, 243X, 248X, 295, 321, 650, 670, 751, 755, 762, 774, 775, 781, 801, 802, 806, 807, 814, 842, 843, 871, 923 and 924.
