A person has died in a snorkelling incident at Northland's Kai Iwi Lakes.
They were found unresponsive in the water about 3pm on Wednesday before being taken to shore.
Police said in a statement the person was unable to be revived.
Support is being provided to the family and the death will be referred to the coroner, police said.
It's the second water death in Northland this Christmas Day. Earlier, emergency services found the body of a missing swimmer off the coast of Waipu.
In that incident, the man, who had been crab fishing, was spotted in the water by a helicopter crew just after midday, a Surf Life Saving New Zealand spokeswoman said.
