The unexplained death of a man in Lower Hutt is now a homicide investigation, police have confirmed.
At 5:30am on Sunday morning, emergency services rushed to the intersection of Futter Grove and Hughes Crescent after receiving reports of a critically injured man.
The 56-year-old man from the Bay of Plenty was confirmed dead shortly afterwards.
Police have told residents in the Taita area they can expect an increased police presence over the next few days as lines of enquiry are followed.
Anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the area between Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 is asked to contact police.
