The snorkellers who went missing off the Wairarapa coast have been found dead.
A search has been underway throughout Saturday after two paua snorkellers - a father and son - went missing at Mātaikona on Friday.
Initial search efforts included helicopters, a surf life saving club and private vessels participating in a fishing competition.
On Saturday night, the Police National Dive Squad located two people dead. While formal identification has yet to take place, police believe they are the missing snorkellers.
"Police are working to support the family involved, who are distraught at the loss of their loved ones," said Sergeant Tony Matheson from Wairarapa Search and Rescue.
"Police would like to thank all those involved in the search yesterday and today."
More information will be released about the pair once "all necessary notifications have been carried out".
