A 4.7 magnitude quake has struck off the Kāpiti Coast, with thousands of people reporting feeling it.
The quake hit at a depth of 57km at 7:27pm on Saturday roughly 50km north-west of Paraparaumu and off the Kāpiti Coast.
It is described as "light" by GeoNet and within 10 minutes, more than 3500 people had reported feeling it. Their descriptions of the shake ranged from "weak" to "extreme".
People in Marlborough, Tasman, Wellington and along the Kāpiti Coast reported feeling it.
"Definitely felt that one in Welly, bubs and I went for a wee rock in our chair...which ain't a rocking chair," tweeted one person.
"Decent quake. Been a while since I felt one like that," said another.
"This shake is giving me motion sickness," added a third.
