A campground near Picton has been evacuated as firefighters battle a blaze near Picton.
Campers staying at the Department of Conservation Whites Bay campsite have been moved to Ocean Bay Reserve.
Fire and Emergency said the campers were at immediate risk if the wind changes.
Firefighters were called to Port Underwood Road between Rarangi Bay and Whites Bay late Wednesday evening.
The blaze has been contained between the road and the sea and fire crews will be using a thermal imaging camera to determine what is needed to continue fighting the fire on Thursday.
The campground was evacuated around 4am on Thursday.
