Just days after a surfer at Pauanui was forced to punch a great white shark in the nose to escape, new footage has emerged of a massive great white swimming around a boat at Bowentown near Waihi at the weekend.
Shark expert Clinton Duffy says this is the fourth one reported to him since November and estimates it's a 3.5 metre-long mature male.
"People should treat any shark over 1.8 m long as potentially dangerous because at that size they're getting large enough to cause life-threatening injuries if you get bitten."
