A land search party is heading into Mt Aspiring National Park on Tuesday morning to look for a tramper who has been missing since Friday.
UK woman Stephanie Simpson, 32, failed to turn up for work on Monday after telling friends she was tramping in the area at the weekend.
A police statement said a helicopter was out searching for her on Monday night and the search will resume on Tuesday morning.
"The Fox Glacier Alpine cliff rescue team, a search dog handler, and Wanaka LandSAR [search and rescue] volunteers are beginning their work shortly.
"If anyone was on the track over the weekend who stayed in the Cameron Flat area on Friday and may have spoken to Stephanie, or anyone who may have seen her on the track from Fantail Falls to Mt Armstrong, or in Makarora Valley, please let police know on 105."
At the weekend, the bodies of two trampers were recovered from the Makarora River following recent flooding in the area.
