Lake Wānaka's picturesque tree has been vandalised and an appeal for information has been made by police.
The tree, which is a tourist attraction at Roys Bay, was discovered damaged on Wednesday with several large branches having been removed.
Anyone who has information about the incident is urged to contact police, area response manager Senior Sergeant Miriam Chittenden said.
