Jucy rental car thefts: Nearly half of vehicles recovered, fourteen arrested so far

Almost half of the 112 Jucy rental cars stolen from a south Auckland yard have been recovered by the police.

So far, fourteen people have been arrested and three young people have been apprehended.

Police said some of the stolen cars were found on Facebook Marketplace while others were located at mostly south Auckland addresses.

Forensics have been completed and CCTV footage is being sought to locate the remaining vehicles, police said.

The exact timings of the thefts is still unclear but they are believed to have taken place during Anzac weekend.

"We have also spoken to other rental car companies in the wider area to ensure they have appropriate security measures in place, which includes keeping vehicle keys hidden in a secure place," said Counties Manukau West area commander Inspector Matt Srhoj.

"We also want to remind the public that it is an offence to knowingly receive stolen property."

Anyone with further information is urged to call the non-emergency police number 105 quoting file number 200426/2493.
