A man has been charged with murder after an incident in Auckland's Mt Roskill on Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to an address on May Rd about 7:30am. Police subsequently launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found with critical injuries and later died.
"Police investigating the death of a woman in Mt Roskill this morning have now charged a 29-year-old man with murder," Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Armstrong said on Friday afternoon.
No-one else is sought in connection to the incident, Det Snr Sgt Armstrong said.
"Police enquiries into this incident are ongoing but we can confirm that the victim and alleged offender were known to each other."
Det Snr Sgt Armstrong said there were no ongoing concerns for the safety of the wider community.
"Police will continue the scene examination and a post-mortem is expected to be carried out tomorrow [Saturday].
"Our deepest sympathies go out to the victim’s family at this absolutely tragic time.
"Formal identification will need to take place before police are in a position to name the victim," said Det Sgt Armstrong, adding the alleged offender is due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Saturday.
He said police and Victim Support would be supporting the family of the victim.
