New Zealand's 1494 COVID-19 cases: Locations, active cases, ages

New Zealand's had another week of daily COVID-19 cases in the single-digits, including two days of zero new cases - something that hasn't happened since March.

There are 1494 cases - 1144 are confirmed and 350 are probable. Overall, 1371 people have recovered, which is 93 percent of all cases. One woman from the Rosewood Rest Home cluster died this week from the virus, bringing the death toll to 21. This means there are 102 active cases.

Two people are in hospital but neither of these are in intensive care.

Locations of cases

The Waitematā District Health Board (DHB) continues to have the most cases in New Zealand, and Tairāwhiti on the North Island's east coast has the least.

Nine out of all 20 DHBs now have zero active cases.

The two hospitalised cases are in Counties Manukau and Waitematā.

Clusters

There continues to be 16 significant clusters in New Zealand. These are groups of 10 or more cases that are connected through transmission and who aren't all part of the same household. Clusters include both confirmed and probable cases.

Four clusters are now closed, the most recent of which was the George Manning Rest Home in Christchurch. A cluster is considered closed when 28 consecutive days - or two virus incubation periods - have passed since the last reported case. It means there is no longer transmission of the virus within or associated with the cluster.

Many of New Zealand's clusters have an unknown origin.

  • Bluff wedding: 98 cases, 85 recovered, linked to overseas exposure
  • Marist College, Auckland: 95 cases, 89 recovered, unknown origin
  • Matamata bar: 77 cases, 69 recovered, linked to overseas exposure

Transmission

There are five types of transmission in New Zealand:

  • Imported cases: Cases with a reported history of international travel within 14 days of the onset of symptoms (38 percent)
  • Imported related cases: Cases that have a reported link (close contact or epidemiological link) to an imported or overseas acquired case (32 percent)
  • Locally acquired cases, epidemiologically linked: Cases that have a reported link (close contact or other epidemiological link) to a locally acquired case with unknown source (24 percent)
  • Locally acquired cases, unknown source: Cases that have no reported history of international travel within 14 days of onset and no recorded epidemiological link to a source case (5 percent)
  • Source of infection remains under investigation (1 percent)
