A 24-year-old man accused of murdering Const Matthew Hunt has appeared briefly in the Waitakere District Court on Saturday morning.
The accused showed no emotion as he appeared via AVL during the short appearance before JP Gerald Rowan.
During the appearance the 24-year-old was granted interim-name suppression.
His arrest ended a large manhunt in Auckland after two police officers were shot and a member of the public was struck by the fleeing vehicle. Several charges have been laid against the man, including murder, attempted murder and dangerous driving causing injury.
Police allege the man was pulled over in a routine traffic stop, he got out of his vehicle on Reynella Drive and shot both police officers, killing Constable Matthew Hunt. A second officer was seriously injured and a member of the public was taken to hospital after being struck by his fleeing vehicle.
He has been remanded in custody and will next appear in the Auckland High Court on July 8.
