An Auckland woman accused of assisting the alleged gunman who shot two police officers last week, killing Constable Matthew Hunt, has appeared in Waitākere District Court on Monday.
The woman, who has been charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, is fighting to maintain her name suppression after receiving numerous threats, the court heard.
Judge Shortland lifted name suppression for the 30-year-old, but as her lawyers are appealing the decision, it currently remains suppressed.
She is charged with assisting the 24-year-old man murder-accused by driving the vehicle enabling him to avoid arrest.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of seven years.
On Friday, 28-year-old Hunt and an unnamed officer were shot while carrying out a routine traffic stop in Massey, west Auckland. Hunt died from his injuries, while the second officer remains in hospital. A pedestrian was also injured by the suspect's vehicle as he fled the scene.
The 30-year-old woman, believed to be an accomplice in Hunt's alleged murder, was taken into police custody on Saturday.
The 24-year-old suspect has been charged with murder, attempted murder and dangerous driving causing injury. The man, who has been granted interim name suppression, appeared in the Waitākere District Court on Saturday. He has been remanded in custody until a hearing at the High Court on July 8.
