Rotorua has been rattled by a series of small, shallow quakes early on Monday morning.
GeoNet recorded several weak quakes in the area between 4:08am and 4:36am.
Three quakes reached 2.2 magnitude while a fourth was just below 2. All were less than 5km below the surface and were within 5km of the Bay of Plenty town.
"Can these earthquakes f**k right off?! I want some sleep," one Rotorua resident tweeted following the shallow quakes.
Speaking to NZME, one local described the rumblings as "quite sharp" and "frightening".
"You can hear them coming and they're quite rolly," she said.
