West Auckland has been hit by a hail storm, including parts of Titirangi, Mt Albert and Avondale.
People posted pictures and videos of hail hitting hard around their neighbourhood.
Newshub lifestyle editor Sarah Templeton posted a picture of her hail filled deck in Mt Albert.
A Twitter user has posted a video of strong winds and hail hammering their deck in Titirangi, despite having blue skies.
MetService says the current intense showery conditions that are bringing hail today are forecast to ease tonight.
"We’re forecasting a few less intense showers to hang around into Thursday morning but they should clear as the day progresses."
A wind warning is in place for Northland, Great Barrier Island, Coromandel, Waikato, Waitomo, Auckland and parts of the Bay of Plenty.
Weather Watch says there will be a surge of windy weather moving into the upper North Island. Already gusts in Auckland have brought a few branches down, cutting power.
Vector head of network field services Marko Simunac said yesterday response teams are on standby in case of power cuts.
"We know it's the school holidays with lots of families at home and reliant on power for warmth and entertainment such as laptops," he said.
"If the weather causes damage to power lines, we'll aim to restore power as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety of our crews and the public."
