A shallow 5.2 magnitude earthquake has shaken Auckland, the Coromandel and Bay of Plenty.
The 5km deep quake struck at 3.47am and was located offshore, 120km north-west of Te Kaha.
The quake is classed as 'weak' on the GeoNet site but more than 2500 people have reported feeling it.
People have taken to Twitter to share their experiences of the quake.
No tsunami warning has been issued.
