A student at Auckland's Mt Albert Primary School has been linked to New Zealand's latest cases of COVID-19 in the community.
In an email sent to parents and staff members seen by Newshub, the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) said a child at the school lives in a household where several people have been confirmed with COVID-19.
"The child has been tested and we are awaiting results," the ARPHS said.
Auckland will enter alert level 3 from midday on Wednesday for three days and all schools will be closed, except for the children of essential workers. The ARPHS said it will work with the Ministry of Health and the school principal to decide whether there has been any COVID-19 exposure.
"A decision will be made about whether there needs to be testing at the school," the email said.
The confirmation of four cases with no known link to overseas travel has prompted a mass testing campaign to get underway in Auckland. Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield told reporters on Tuesday night he hopes the news stops anyone from being complacent.
A huge effort was underway to find the source of the cases, he said.
