New Zealanders now have a chance to ask Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield all their burning questions, as an auction for lunch with the "dad of the nation" has been listed on Trade Me.
The auction is a fundraiser for the Cancer Society, and bidding has already hit $3010 with five days left to go. The highest bidder and six lucky friends will receive lunch with Dr Bloomfield at iconic Wellington restaurant Bellamys.
The listing begins by listing Dr Bloomfield's many names.
"The Eliminator, Ash, the Dad of the Nation, The Curve Crusher, Dr Bloomfield or to his kids, just Dad."
It then goes on to express thanks for Dr Bloomfield's support of the charity.
"Whatever his nickname, we are grateful that Dr Ashley Bloomfield is supporting the Cancer Society on Daffodil Day by kindly offering his time for a lunch with you and 6 people of your choice."
Trade Me users have asked the important questions regarding the lunch, such as: "Will he read the menu like it's the 1pm briefing?"
"That would be awesome," the Cancer Society responded.
Another user commented on the shipping options of the listing: "It must be a relief for Ashley Bloomfield (and his wife) that the auction conditions include 'Seller does not allow pick-ups' lol."
Bellamys has donated the lunches so the full amount paid by the winner of the auction will go to the Cancer Society, and while the listing says free shipping, the seller has confirmed you will have to ship yourself to the restaurant.
