A man has been arrested today after allegedly pulling a firearm on police during a traffic stop in Auckland.
Police pulled over a vehicle on Victoria Street West at around 11.44am this morning, Inspector Gary Davey said in a statement.
The driver of the vehicle supplied false details to the officers and was put under arrest by Police.
During the arrest, the man drew out a weapon, believed to be a firearm, according to the statement.
"Staff have managed to remove this weapon from the man and thankfully he has been taken into custody without further incident," Inspector Davey said.
No police officers were injured nor was the weapon discharged during the incident.
Inspector Davey says police are still making enquiries and charges are likely to be made.
